How to choose the right one
First choose the type to suit your riding: full-face (maximum protection), cross/enduro (pronounced chin bar, sun peak, to be worn with goggles) or open-face (jet). Homologation is essential: ECE (Europe) for the road, DOT often found on cross models. Size is measured by head circumference: the helmet must fit firmly with no pressure points. Check ventilation, weight and whether a visor or goggles are included. A well-fitted helmet is the foundation of your safety.

Frequently asked questions
How do I choose my helmet size?
Measure your head circumference just above the eyebrows and compare it with the brand's size guide. The helmet should grip your cheeks firmly without pain or pressure points and not move when you shake your head.
DOT or ECE, which homologation for the road?
In Europe, the ECE standard is required to ride legally on the road. The (American) DOT standard is often found on cross helmets. Check for ECE homologation for road use.
Can you ride on the road with a cross helmet?
Only if it is ECE-approved for the road. A cross helmet is used with goggles and ventilates a lot; at sustained road speeds its peak can be a nuisance. Check the homologation before any road use.
